Why do I take Ashwagandha every morning?
Ashwagandha is an herb used to help the body handle stress. Some trials found lower cortisol, but they were small and short, and how it works isn't settled. Some people feel drowsy on it, so see how it affects you before you drive. For me, it takes the edge off busy days.
What I like
- 600 mg of KSM-66, the root extract used in many of the trials
- May help with everyday stress (the evidence is still low-certainty)
- May ease restlessness and nervousness
- 100% vegan and plant-based capsules
Downsides
- Don't take it while pregnant or breastfeeding unless your doctor says yes. Health Canada requires this warning on every ashwagandha product.
- It can change thyroid hormone levels. If you have a thyroid condition or take thyroid medication, ask your doctor first. The label also says to check first if you have prostate problems or a diagnosed anxiety or depression condition.
- Rare liver injury has been reported, and Health Canada says a link can't be ruled out. Stop and see a doctor if you notice yellow skin or eyes, dark urine, itching or nausea. It can make you drowsy, so don't mix it with alcohol or sleep aids.
Adi's experience
I take this every morning as part of my daily routine to keep my stress levels low and maintain a clear, steady head. It helps tone down everyday stress so I can focus on my workouts and work.
