Why is Nitrosurge my top recommendation for a budget-friendly pre-workout?
Most of what you feel is the caffeine: 180 mg a scoop. It's the best-studied pre-workout ingredient, with small to moderate gains in strength, reps and endurance, and better focus. At one scoop, the citrulline, beta-alanine and betaine are below the doses most studies use. Two scoops get there, but that's 360 mg of caffeine. It doesn't give me a crash, but caffeine hits people differently; some get jittery or sleep badly. It does the job for a lot less than the big brands.
What I like
- 180 mg caffeine per scoop for energy and focus
- Every dose on the label; coloured with beet root, sweetened with sucralose
- Caffeine gives a small to moderate boost to strength and muscular endurance
- Good price per serving next to the big-name brands
Downsides
- Caffeine: 180 mg a scoop, 360 mg at two. Health Canada's limit is 400 mg a day for adults, counting coffee, and 300 mg if you're pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding. Not for under-18s, and not late in the day. If you have heart-rhythm problems, high blood pressure or anxiety, ask your doctor first.
- Beta-alanine makes your skin tingle for a while. It's harmless, but it surprises people. It only helps at 4–6 g every day for weeks; one scoop (1.6 g) doesn't get there.
Adi's experience
I’ve been using Nitrosurge almost daily for over 3 years now. In my opinion, this is the absolute best value for your money when it comes to pre-workouts. Sure, there are slightly "better" options out there, but they are much more expensive and not worth the massive jump in price
